First and foremost, he said in a recent interview, “is to make sure we provide excellent care for our residents and patients.” Second, he said, is to keep his commitment to the board of directors that Bucktail Medical Center remains in operation. There are financial challenges; every hospital has them, he said.

The search for types of increased services can help provide the means to keeping BMC. One possibility is that BMC is working with the Veterans Administration with the idea of providing some services for veterans. Reeves and the staff are also identifying other types of services the community needs that are not currently available at BMC.

The center is also open to hearing from area residents and patients about services they would like to see available at Bucktail, and people can request Bucktail for needed services.

Reeves comes to Bucktail with a background in administration of medical facilities. He owned and operated two personal care homes in Cambria County for 19 years and then worked at two different nursing homes in Cambria and Westmoreland counties.

He said he was drawn to Bucktail Medical Center because when he first entered the center it was clean and well cared for offering a welcoming atmosphere. He said the staff was friendly and it was obvious the employees take pride in their work and in the facility.

Reeves said he takes a hands-on approach to his leadership. He likes to talk to employees and staff daily, so that they understand what is happening and why choices are made. “It’s important that we share information as we’re moving ahead,” he said.
