Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Apostle John was inspired by God to write the Gospel of John, the three Epistles of John, in the Revelation. What John wrote about was what he and other apostles learned about the gospel.

“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world” ( I John 4:14).

The message of Christmas is wrapped up in those twelve words, “the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.”

God the father loved the world so much that he gave his Son, his only begotten Son, according to John 3:16. God’s Son is the “the gift of God,” as John 4:10 tells us.

Jesus was sent by his father “to be the Savior of the world.” As the angel of the Lord announced to the shepherds: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11).

A savior saves. We cannot save ourselves. We cannot be our own savior. The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and said to him “Thou shalt call his name JESUS, for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

Bertha Monroe writes, “However self-confident men are, they cannot lift themselves to God by their own bootstraps. Sin is real and it is too strong for us. But since Jesus came, there is a path clear between the Cross and every seeking sinner. He come to save.”
