LOCK HAVEN, PA – Lock Haven University, the LHU soccer team and the Lock Haven University Olde Boys Soccer Club (LHUOBSC) recently celebrated Lock Haven University emeritus Karl Herrmann by dedicating permanent signage in his honor at Hubert Jack Stadium. The recognition came during halftime at the LHU women’s soccer match against Shippensburg on Oct. 16.

Widely regarded as the “Founding Father” of Clinton County’s American Youth Soccer Organization, Herrmann was a longtime associate professor in LHU’s Health and Physical Education Department. He also coached basketball and baseball at LHU, but found his true passion coaching soccer.

During his tenure as head men’s soccer coach, Herrmann won several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships. His teams also made the final four in the eastern division of NCAA postseason play twice.

Herrmann earned emeritus status from Lock Haven University in 1997. He was also a longtime member of the LHU Foundation Board of Directors.

In the lead up to the event, the LHUOBSC set a goal of raising $14,000 to contribute to the Karl Herrmann Foundation Scholarship. By the conclusion of the ceremony, they had surpassed their $14,000 goal by more than $5,000.

More than 25 alumni and former players of Herrmann attended the event, as well as his wife, and his son, Kurt.

Keith Bradburd ’78, LHUOBSC president; Patrick Long, LHU head men’s soccer coach; and several members of LHU’s Advancement Office were also in attendance.

The LHU women’s squad defeated Shippensburg 1-0. Following the ceremony and the ladies’ victory, the LHU men’s soccer team went on to defeat the Shippensburg men by a score of 2-1.
