Words of Grace 6/24
By Rev. Malhon Nevel
The Lord Jesus tells us not to lay up treasures for ourselves down here on earth. But we should be laying up treasure is for ourselves up in heaven.
“For where your treasure is,” says the Lord,” there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21).
It has been said that, when we die, we leave our money behind. We can’t take it with us. There is a story about a rich, miserly old man laying on his deathbed.
“I want to take all my money with me,” he told his wife.” so promise me you’ll put it in the casket it when I die.”
After he died, his widow was attending the memorial service with her neighbor. Just as the undertaker was about to close the casket, she placed a small metal box inside.
With a troubled look on her face, her neighbor asked, “you didn’t put the money in their did you?”
The widow answered, “I did promise him I would. So I got it all together, deposited every penny in my account, and wrote him a check. If he can cash it, he can spend it.”
The Lord in his word says, “so is he that layeth upon treasure for himself and is not rich toward God” (Luke 12: 21).
