Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Acts of the Apostles in the history of the New Testament church. The four gospels give a record “of all that began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was taken up” (Acts 1:1, 2).

Just before Jesus was taken up to heaven in the ascension he spoke his final words to the disciples. While they stood there looking up toward heaven, two angels appeared.

“Why are you standing here gazing up into heaven?” they asked.”This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven” (v.11).

M.R. Dettaan was for years the teacher of the Radio Bible Class. He was looking for the return of Christ and had a sign on his desk that read: “Perhaps Today’.

“Yes, indeed,” he wrote, “Jesus Christ is coming again. He is coming literally, visibly, bodily, in like manner as he has gone away. The fact is absolutely certain, while the time has not been revealed. Jesus will return some day, and he may return today.”

There are an increasing number of people today who are looking for Jesus to come again. Hebrews 9:28 tells us that “unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time.”

Some once has said that Jesus left heaven and came here so that when we leave here we can go there.
