KCSB approves no-tax hike budget

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Keystone Central School Board Thursday night gave its approval to the school district’s second straight year without a local tax increase.

The board unanimously approved, on a 7-0 vote, a 2021-22 budget amounting to $82.987 million; one that keeps taxes unchanged for a second year in a row.

The district covers parts of three counties and the proposed real estate millage in each remains the same as this school year: Clinton County, 13.35 mills; Centre County, 44.44 mills; Potter County, 46.24 mills. As proposed, the district earned income and net profits tax will remain at 1 percent.

Final budget adoption is slated for the board’s June meeting. Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin and Business Manager Susan Blesh had indicated earlier this calendar year they were working towards a no-tax hike budget for next year. The district had seen a three year run of annual real estate tax increases until the current school year which began on July 1, 2020 with no increase.

The Thursday night meeting lasted little more than 10 minutes and the several board approvals at the session came without comment from board members. Board members, President Tracy Smith and member Eric Probert, were not in attendance.

The board went into executive session immediately following its voting session.
