By Beese O’Brien
LOCK HAVEN- Kolten Martin may have pitched the game of his life on Saturday afternoon. The East Juniata senior was in the groove against Sugar Valley in a nonconference District IV clash at Taggert Park.
Martin would strike out 13 Phoenix batters and allowed no hits in 6 innings of work.
Only Sugar Valley senior Lance Winchester would reach base by way of a walk.
Despite the lack of hits, Sugar Valley was very much in the game through five innings. It wasn’t until the top of the sixth inning that the Phoenix would let the game slip away.
East Juniata would plate 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning to see their 8-0 lead turn into a 19-0 score. The Phoenix would fail to score in their half of the inning to extend the game.
East Juniata improved to 2-9 on the season. The Tigers also pounded out 9 hits and took advantage of four Sugar Valley errors.
Sugar Valley fell to 0-10 on the season and will next be in action on Monday at Benton.
