Words of Grace 5/13

By Pastor Mahlon Nevel

“Are you the King of the Jews?” Pilate asked Jesus at his trial. When Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world,” Pilate asked him again if he was a king.

Then Pilate ordered that Jesus was to be scourged. After that the soldiers made a crown of thorns and placed it on his head.

“Hail, King of the Jews!” they said, mocking him. Later, Pilate brought forth Jesus in said, “Behold your King!”
Jesus, bearing his cross, went to a place called Golgotha, where he was crucified. Pilate wrote a title which was put on the cross. It read: “Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews.”

Our Lord was not received as a King in his first coming, but he will be in the second coming. His name will be written at that time: “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords” (Revelation 19:16).

His crown-of-thorns was part of his humiliation. His crown of glory will be part of his exaltation when he comes again.

“Why did it have to be a crown of thorns placed upon His head?
And why did it have to be a heavy cross He was made to bear,
And why did they nail His feet and hands? His love would have held them there! “
