Words of Grace 5/6
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you,” Jesus promised his disciples in John 14:27. The peace that Jesus gives is not the same peace that the world gives.
The things that Jesus spoke to them were said that they might have peace. In the world they would have tribulation, but in him they had peace. (John 16:33)
Trials, troubles, and tribulations are always with us in the world. There is tribulation, and there is also “great tribulation” (Revelation 7:14). The Great Tribulation will be a time of intensified trouble such as the world has never known.
Beware of those who will say in that day, “Peace, peace, when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14; 8:11). For when they say “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction comes upon them (I Thess. 5:3 5 – 3)
Ecclesiastes 3 lists a number of things happening in the world. At the end of the list it says “a time of war, in a time of peace” (v. 8)
At the first coming of Christ the angels announced that there would be peace on earth. (Luke 2:14) That peace will be on earth at the second coming of Christ.
The Prince of Peace shall role in reign on the Earth when he returns. In the mean time, let the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding; keep our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. (Philippians 4:7)
