Word of Grace 4/29

By Pastor Mahlon Nevel

When God called Abraham, he went out “by faith,” not knowing where he was going. When he got to the land of promise, he lived in that strange land “by faith.” (Hebrews 11: 8, 9)

But Abraham was always looking beyond this world. He was looking for a city in heaven, the city of God. (v.10) He knew that God had prepared for him a heavenly city. (v. 16)

When John was caught up to heaven, he saw the holy city, new Jerusalem (Revelation 21:2). He described the city of heaven as a place where he is no more tears or crying, no more death or sorrow, and no more pain. (v.4)

Bob Jones, founder of Bob Jones University, writes that all the problems of in earthly city are solved in the heavenly city. The street problem is solved. The light problem is solved. The health problem is solved. The death problem is solved. The sin problem is solved.

Ecclesiastes 10:5 tells us that the labor of a foolish man wears him out because he does not know how to go to the city. How can we get to the city of heaven?

Thomas, one of the disciples asked Jesus,” How can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way.”
