Hyner Challenge sees more than 900 complete the challenge

HYNER, PA – The day dawned cool and clear Saturday as close to a thousand people took on Hyner Mountain and the 15th annual Hyner View Trail Challenge. More than 200 runners took off at 8 a.m. for the 50K race, with more than 700 people taking on the 25K course at 9 a.m.

Participants came from 19 different states, the District of Columbia and even the United Kingdom. But it was Clinton County’s Reagan McCoy of Lock Haven who finished the 50K course ahead of the pack. The 23-year-old turned in a time of 4:36. McCoy was followed by Andrew Simpson, 32, of York, PA, with a time of 4:51, and Benjamin Linne, 23, of Joppa, Maryland, who had a time of 4:51. The first females to complete the long course were Nicole Yokum, 37 of State College, who was 12th overall with a time of 5:16; Amanda Debevc, 43, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, at 6:05, and Julie Pentico, 53, of Williamsport, at 6:08.

In the 25K, it was Ben Robinson, 27, of Lehman, PA, who crossed the finish line first, with a time of 1:46. Robin finished second in the 2019 Hyner Challenge (there was no race in 2020). Steven Lange, 29, of Stanhope, New Jersey, finished second with a time of 1:47, followed by Eddie Kraftchisin, 50, of Pittston, Twp., PA, who had a time of 1:55. Katie O’Regan, 36, of Lititz, PA, was the first female to complete the 25K course, 27th overall, with a time of 2:19. Second-place female finisher was Jill Dennes, 28, of Windsor, PA, 32nd overall with a time of 2:21, followed by Lisa Fisher, 37, of Cogan Station, 36th overall with a time of 2:24.

In all, there were 213 people who finished the 50K, and 705 finishers in the 25K course. Craig Fleming serves as race director for Hyner and several other local trail challenges and hosted by the PA Trail Dogs running group.
