LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s outdoor track & field team opened the 2021 season at home as the Bald Eagles hosted the Elliston Earlybird Open.

The meet is named for longtime and former LHU head coach Mark Elliston. Elliston, now the director of track and field and cross country at Elon University, led the Bald Eagles to a number of honors during his time in The Haven.

Lock Haven got individual wins from Zack Skrabski (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), as well as a stadium-record in a winning effort by the Bald Eagles distance medley relay team.
Skrabski, fresh off an All-Conference performance at last week’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross country championships, won the 3,000-meter run with a dazzling kick down the home stretch. He ran a time of 8:58.98.

Miller, a rookie, recorded nearly a four-second personal-best mark on the way to a victory in the 400-meter dash (49.87). As of press time, it was the fastest time this season in the PSAC. He also ran well at 200 meters.

LHU dominated the 5,000-meter run. Gage Krall (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was third overall with a time of 15:22.90. Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton) was fourth (15:26.82), Aaron Pfeil (Pittsburgh/South Fayette) was sixth (15:49.58) and Ethan Rogers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was seventh (16:13.90).

John Davern (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) added a fourth-place showing in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:06.27.

The Bald Eagles won the distance medley relay – – Davern, Miller, Andrew Wehrle (Rossister, Pa./Punxsutawney) & Skrabski – – with a stadium record time of 10:40.10.

Lucas Bracken (Berlin, Pa./Slippery Rock Univ.) was fifth in the hammer throw (145-07).

LHU will return to action next weekend (Saturday, April 3) at the Millersville Metrics meet.
