Lady Wildcats Down Lewisburg, 52-34

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – It took the Central Mountain girls’ basketball team a while to get going, but once they did, they moved past visiting Lewisburg and never looked back Tuesday night. Trailing by an 8-5 score after the first eight minutes, the Lady ‘Cats picked things up quarter by quarter on the way to a final 52-34 victory. The loss was the first of the season for Lewisburg, now 4-1.

The offensive production went up by the quarter: from five to 11 to 12 and then 24 in the final quarter to pull away to win number two in two tries.

Freshman Ava Renninger put up 21 points for the second game in a row to pace CM. Alyssa Fisher followed with 11. Others denting the scoring column were Avery Baker and Quinlynn McCann each with nine and Kiahna Jones with two; Jones also pulled down a team high nine rebounds, Baker next with eight and Jones added three blocked shots.

The Lady Wildcats hit seven treys, including three from Renninger, two from Fisher and one each from Baker and McCann. Renninger led the way with three assists on a night when Central Mountain had five assists, compared to 12 turnovers. Renninger also contributed seven steals, Baker with four.

Off to a 2-0 start, next contest for coach Scott Baker’s team will be Saturday, Jan. 23, home with Shamokin, jayvee game at 6 p.m., varsity at 7:30 p.m.
