Ronald Jacob Jones – Obituary

Ronald Jacob Jones, 82, of Lock Haven, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport.

Born July 19, 1938 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late James R. and Hazel I. Jones.

Following his graduation from Lock Haven High School in 1956, Ron joined the Army National Guard, serving for 8 years.

On August 26, 1961 in Lock Haven, he married the former Sharon L. Romig, who survives.

Ron earned the job of Lead Electrician at Hammermill Paper Company where he was employed for 30 years. While there he had invented a tail-end cutter for the paper machine which he received a monetary award and picture in newspaper. He then worked for Centre Lime and Stone for a brief period before serving as the Electrical Foreman for Dan Hawbaker until his retirement in 2001.

In his earlier years, Ron was an avid guitarist and performed in the band “Beachcomber’s/Abstract’s” at local venues. He enjoyed the outdoors, including time he spent on the Romig Farm on the Great Island, where he was often found searching for arrowheads. He always stayed busy and was very talented, crafting and constructing many projects over the years. Most of all, Ron loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who knew him best as “Poppy.” He was a wonderful man that always provided for his family. He was a very special soul and was loved and cherished by many.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by two daughters, Virginia I. (Michael P. Stoneberg) Jones of Lock Haven and Christine L. (Roger) Bechdel of Mill Hall; a sister-in-law, Jane Jones of Lock Haven; three grandsons, Nathaniel J. (Morgan) Bechdel, Matthew H. Jones and Elijah P. Bechdel; and four great-grandchildren, Gage M. Conway, Elizabeth M. Bechtol, Blaze A. Conway and Jonathan M. Conway, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Jones, Jr.; and his grandson, Jonathan Michael Conway.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be announced at a later time.

Burial will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.
