LHU’s Moyer Shines at PSAC T&F Championships

EDINBORO, Pa. – Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) finished second in both the mile and 3,000-meter run on Sunday, and she led the way for the Lock Haven University women’s indoor track & field team as the Bald Eagles capped their run at the 2020 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

Moyer’s 18 team points scored today by way of second-place finishes in the mile and 3K capped her outstanding championship triple and followed up her Day 1 victory in the 5,000-meter run yesterday. On the way to the second-place finish in the mile today, Moyer smashed her own school record.

Moyer scored 26 of Lock Haven’s 35.5 total points and carried LHU to a 10th place finish in the team standings.

Saturday on Day 1 of the 2020 PSAC Championships, Moyer cruised to victory in the 5K, winning by over 14 seconds. The win provided 10 team points to Lock Haven’s total.

Moyer opened Day 2 Sunday action with a thrilling effort in the mile. She finished second with a time of 5:00.16, which smashed her own school record by nearly five seconds and the time pushed close to an NCAA Division II provisional mark (4:58.73). The mile proved to be a special race as Edinboro’s Stefanie Parsons needed an NCAA mark of 4:57.32 to down Moyer and third-place finisher Kacey Raible of Slippery Rock, who ran a 5:00.98 mile.

Moyer capped her busy two-day championship performance with another brilliant effort, this time at 3,000 meters. She was second overall today in the 3K, narrowly finishing behind only Parsons of Edinboro. Moyer’s strong time of 10:06.91 cleared the third-place finisher by five seconds and helped the Bald Eagle cap a truly remarkable two-day championship triple. She scored 16 points for Lock Haven today and finished the championships with 26 total points.

Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash finals to help lead the way for Lock Haven. Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Emily Labar (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump, respectively.
