Moyer Runs to School Record in 5K at Penn Relays

Karina Long medaled in long jump, thanks to a third-place finish and Laurel Moyer smashed the 5K school-record on the way to an NCAA provisional mark.

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman-standout Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) finished third in the long jump and distance-star Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central) smashed the school record at 5,000-meters, as the duo led the way for the Lock Haven University women’s track & field team tonight at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Today marked day one at the 2019 Penn Relays, the 125th running of the meet, one of the biggest and most recognizable track & field meets in the world.

Long finished third in the women’s college long jump and Moyer placed 22nd in the women’s college 5,000-meter run.

Long’s personal-best jump of 18-10.75 in the long jump led to a third-place finish. She was third out of 41 and the top NCAA Division II finisher. Long’s mark just missed the NCAA DII provisional championship mark and it stands as the second-best wind-legal jump in LHU history.

Moyer was 22nd out of 56 runners and the 19th collegiate finisher, and her personal-best time of 17:01.05 smashed the school record by over 17 seconds. The NCAA provisional mark is the fastest time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season by over 27 seconds. For Moyer, the time tonight ranks her among the top-25 this season in DII. The time proved to be an overall 5K PR by 35 seconds and an outdoor-5K PR by over a minute.

Cadie Kiser (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) ran 17:46.09 in the 5K, which proved to be a new lifetime-best by over 46 seconds. Kiser’s time is the fourth-best in school history and third-best this season in the PSAC.

On the men’s side, both Luke Vanderhoff (Hamburg, N.J./Wall Kill Valley) and Matthew Oscovitch (Andover, N.J./Misericordia) competed in the 5K. Vanderhoff ran 15:13.50 and Oscovitch ran 15:17.84.

The Penn Relays will continue tomorrow (Friday, April 26). CJ Anderson (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) will represent The Haven men tomorrow in the 400-meter hurdle championship.
