LHU’s Moyer Smashes 1,000-meter School Record

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Lock Haven University women’s indoor track & field team Friday opened the two-day National Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University with a record-breaking performance.

It was sophomore and local-product Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) who highlighted the action, as she smashed the school record at 1,000 meters. She dipped under the 3-minute mark and ran 2:58.38. She was second overall in the race and the top NCAA Division II finisher in the 21-runner field. The previous school record was 3:01.48 (2009).

The two-day National Mid-Major meet in Youngstown, Ohio kicked off Friday and resumes Saturday. A limited number of Bald Eagles were in action Day 1, but tomorrow (Sat, Feb. 2) looks to be a busy day for LHU.

Moyer’s record-breaking outing highlighted LHU action, but thrower Arianna Moyer (Enola, Pa./Bucknell) was also solid. She was ninth in the weight throw with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mark of 42-09.75. Madeline Brandt (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) was 15th in the long jump with a leap of 16-01.50.

Saturday’s Day 2 action will begin at 10 a.m.
