Strouse Announces Re-Election Bid for District Attorney
BEECH CREEK – Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse will seek a second term in that office. Here is his candidacy announcement:
“District Attorney Dave Strouse has announced that he will seek another term as Clinton County’s chief law enforcement officer.
“Strouse is currently closing out his first term as DA after winning election to that office in 2015. His campaign focused on four primary goals: 1) Addressing drug and safety concerns in county schools; 2) Developing a county Veteran’s Court Program; 3) Providing more training and resources to our local police officers; and 4) Addressing the opioid epidemic by imposing more intensive supervision programs for offenders with substance abuse concerns.
“Asked what accomplishment he is most proud of as District Attorney, Strouse answered, “more than anything over these past three-plus years, I’m most impressed by the work of the men and women in Clinton County Law Enforcement. The commitment and dedication demonstrated by our State and Municipal Police, Sheriff’s Department, Probation and Parole Officers, and Correctional Officers is evident by the great strides we have been able to take in improving our county over these last few years.”
“Seven months after Strouse took office, Clinton County became the first county in the central region to implement a Veteran’s Court Program in July of 2016. The program aims to help military veterans who find themselves in trouble with the law by providing structure, treatment and support for PTSD, mental health and substance abuse issues.
“During his tenure as DA, Strouse has used county drug forfeiture money – money seized from drug dealers by police – to fund equipment purchases for local police departments. The DA’s Office has been able to provide the funds necessary to enable the Borough of Renovo to equip and care for their Police K9, Jordan. Most recently, the DA’s Office was able to provide funding to purchase new duty firearms for all Lock Haven City Police Officers.
“Beginning in 2016, the DA’s Office secured funding for drug prevention programs in Keystone Central School District, in particular, the Red Ribbon Week campaign each year. The DA’s office has provided drug and alcohol prevention programs to students at the middle school level and bullying prevention programs at all grade levels. Strouse has been a regular speaker each year for the boys and girls Clinton County Camp Cadet programs and the Bucktail Youth Leadership Program.
“In the courtroom, the DA’s Office has secured convictions in a wide range of cases including Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Robbery, Rape, Child Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Narcotics distribution, Animal Cruelty, and Homicide while DUI.
“Strouse has also earned statewide recognition during his first term as District Attorney. In 2016, Strouse was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing: a prominent bi-partisan legislative commission tasked with making sweeping improvements to the Pennsylvania Sentencing laws. Strouse was re-appointed for another two-year term in late 2018 and continues to serve as the only Pennsylvania District Attorney on the Commission.
“In 2018, Strouse was appointed to serve as the Sentencing Committee Chairman for the Pennsylvania District Attorneys’ Association (PDAA). That same year Strouse was also elected to serve on the board of directors the Pennsylvania District Attorneys’ Institute: the educational arm of the PDAA.
“I’m asking for the opportunity to keep doing the job that I love for the same reasons I sought this position in the first place,” Strouse said. “I have a vested interest to keep making Clinton County a better place for our kids. I’ve spent my whole life here, and my wife and I are raising our three boys here. We have made tremendous strides in the District Attorney’s Office and we have really come a long way, but we can continue to get better. We will continue to get better and improve Clinton County.”
“Born and raised in Beech Creek, Strouse graduated from Bald Eagle-Nittany High School. He is a Penn State Altoona graduate and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Villanova University School of Law. Strouse resides in Lamar Township with his wife, Sara, and their three sons, Cooper, Logan and Andrew. He is a current member, and former director, of the Lock Haven Kiwanis and volunteers as a Little League baseball coach in Mill Hall.”
