LOCK HAVEN – The Sentimental Journey Fly-in to “Cub” Haven always brings visitors from around the corner and across the nation. In 2014, the 29th edition is no different.
Chuck Wells, a first-time visitor, flew his J-3 from San Diego, CA at two hour steps that spanned six days. He and his traveling companion will have traveled nearly 5,000 miles by the time they return home.
Conversely, Robert Peterson only had to travel about 90 miles by car to return to the William T. Piper Memorial Airport.
Peterson, at age 90 and also worked at Piper in the 1940s, has owned and flown several Piper Cubs over the years and has made several trips, some by air, to Sentimental Journey. Even though his family has restricted his solo flights, Peterson says the fellow he sold his plane to will allow him to fly anytime he wishes.
