First-half powers LHU Men’s Basketball to road victory at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team built a double-digit lead in the first half and earned its 12th victory of the season by downing Shippensburg, 83-75, in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8).

The red-hot Bald Eagles are now 12-10 on the season and have won five of their last six games. The Haven improved to 9-7 in the PSAC and remains in a heated battle with Millersville for the fourth seed in the Eastern Division.

The Bald Eagles held a slight advantage in shooting percentage and knocked down eight trifectas to Shippensburg’s nine, however, The Haven led 17-8 in made free throws to pull away.

The Bald Eagles also forced a game-high 14 turnovers.

Lock Haven also led 38-28 in points in the paint, 20-10 in second chance points and 15-10 in fast break points.

Isaiah Stewart led the Bald Eagles in scoring with an efficient 23 points thanks to going 10-of-10 at the charity stripe and 2-of-3 from behind the arch. Stewart also dished out four assists and pulled in four rebounds.

Kevin Coleman knocked down 8-of-13 shots from the field to finish with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds and two steals.

Eli Washington plucked away a game-high four steals, while adding 10 points and four assists on the offensive end.

Bryson Scott added seven rebounds and LaQuan Byrd chipped in eight points off the bench.

Shippensburg scored the opening basket of the game, but The Haven quickly built a 10-point lead through the opening seven minutes, and outscored the Raiders 40-28 in the first half.

During the run, The Haven knocked down six trifectas at nearly a 50 percent clip and went a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line.

Shippensburg outscored The Haven in the second half to make a late run, but the first-half lead proved to be insurmountable.

The Bald Eagles return home and will host Mansfield inside Thomas Fieldhouse on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 7:30 p.m. in a PSAC Eastern Division contest.
