Let's Get Saucy & Dippy
By Sandy Considine
I don’t know about you, but I think that the sauce in a recipe is the most important part of the dish. Sauce and dips make the dish interesting. Sauce makes the stubborn picky eater try the dish and that is a win-win.
Store your sauce and dips in a mason jar and they will last a week or freeze them. A word about mason jars, I can’t live without them. I store everything in them. All sizes, oh!! how I love them. They will become your best friend in the kitchen.
First and foremost, you will be using nuts and seeds in these recipes, no mayo, no oil, no dairy just healthy ingredients. Give them a try, you will be amazed. Just a word about nuts and seeds, buy in volume, and freeze them, so they don’t go rancid. The nuts and seed need to be RAW, roasted will not work. You will soak in water the nuts before blending. Sounds complicated right! but it isn’t once you become familiar with the process. Your body will thank you.
My go to is on Amazon for raw nuts, it is cost effective. I have had 5 pounds of raw cashews in the freezer for almost a year. It is convenient and cheaper that way and they are there when needed for a recipe. Another ingredient you will want to purchase and keep in the refrigerator is nutritional yeast. You can get this even at Walmart. Nutritional yeast is high in protein and B vitamins and has a savory flavor like cheese if you are not familiar.
Some ingredients you may not be familiar with is tahini, which is just sesame seeds made into a paste. Tamari, which is the same as soy sauce but does not contain wheat for those who are celiac or sensitive to wheat. And aquafaba, which is the liquid in a can of chickpeas.
I hope you try some of these recipes and keep in mind that there are ways of having the foods you love that are healthy.
Indulge and enjoy!
