Melinda Kathryn Packer – Obituary

Melinda Kathryn Packer, 101, formerly of Beech Creek, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Susque View Home.

Born on January 26, 1913 in Orviston, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Lena Viola Crotzer Singer.

In her early years, Kathryn was employed by Sylvania and then as the clerk of the Orviston store.

On February 7, 1931 she married the love of her life, Reuben William Packer who preceded in her in death after 62 years of marriage.

Along with caring for her family, Kathryn loved to sew and cook.

Surviving are two sons: Gerald (Audre) Packer of Beech Creek and Leroy “Popeye” (Connie) Packer of Marsh Creek; many grandchildren; many, many great grandchildren; and numerous great, great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Reuben, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Singer, and a sister, Agnes Hanley.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, 217 Main St., Beech Creek with the Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating. Private burial will take place at Romola Cemetery.
