Words of Grace – June 5, 2014
word“Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint” (Proverbs 25:19).
In the time of trouble it is of utmost importance that we have a faithful refuge to trust in. Is there any such place?
“In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge” (Proverbs 14:26).
It is the Lord who is a refuge for us. He is “a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We can call upon the Lord “in the day of trouble.” If we do call, he promised: “I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me” (Psalm 50:15).
The New Testament reveals to us that God has sent the Lord Jesus Christ to be a refuge for us that we might have hope in these last days. Hebrews 6:18 refers to those “who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.”
That hope is Jesus: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast” (v. 19).
Priscilla Owens asks: “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life?” She then reminds us: “We have an anchor that keeps the soul stedfast and sure while the billows roll, fastened to the Rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.”
