WCCRA: New Weight Room Now Open

RENOVO –  Western Clinton County Recreation Center opened its brand new weight room early Monday morning. John Wasserman of the Western Clinton County Recreation Center’s board of directors, who spearheaded the weight room project notes that it’s been a long time in the making. The idea of building a new weight room originated 10 years ago.

DCNR had grant money available for recreation through their Community Partnerships Program. We (the center) applied for and was awarded a feasibility study grant in the amount of $25,000 for a much larger project. Unfortunately, when the study was completed there was no longer any money available for a construction grant from DCNR. Then in April of 2014 WCCRA was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Dominion Foundation for a new weight room. WCCRA secured more grants and donations, and now it has a new weight room.

Besides Wasserman, weight room members Mike Charcalla, Denny Getz, Jim Bratton, and good friend Robby Probst worked this past weekend disassembling all of the equipment, moving it to the new weight room, and reassembling everything. About 17 hours of time was required to get the job one. There are a few minor details that need to be finished like hanging mirrors, etc., but the new weight room is open and fully operational.
