Wildcats Whitewash Seals 4-0
CM Finish Heartland at 14-0
SELINSGROVE — It was another text-book game of baseball, good pitching, solid defense and enough hitting, from the Central Mountain Wildcats today, the result a 4-0 win at Selinsgrove.
The victory put the cap on a 14-0 record on way to the Heartland Conference championship. It left the Wildcats at 18-1 overall, one regular season game to go, tomorrow at home at 4:30 p.m. against District 6 foe State College (10-6). Selinsgrove dropped to 8-4 overall with the loss.
Alex Garbrick was again outstanding on the mound for CM. The senior notched a 4-hit shutout, his third of the year, moving his overall mark to 5-1. Garbrick struck out six, walked two and was never in danger of surrendering a run. His defense played errorless ball behind him. For the year he has given up only four earned runs in 37 innings of work.
The Wildcat offense pecked away, putting up one in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Senior third baseman Talon Falls led the way with three hits, including a double, scored one and drove in one. Ethan Watkins had a single and an RBI, Colin Treaster a single and Brandon Miller a single to go along with two walks.
Games through today will count for District 6 playoff purposes. District baseball officials are expected to release the district AAAA pairings over the next few days. Based on records to this point, the Wildcats (18-1) should earn a number one seed, Mifflin County (14-6) a two, State College (10-6) a three and Altoona (9-10) the fourth seed.
The district semifinals are set for Thursday, May 26 at the home of the higher seeded team. The district title game will be played Wednesday, June 1 in Altoona.
