Charles B. Long, Jr. – Obituary

charles-long-140621.jpgCharles B. “Peanut” Long, Jr., 67, 2251 Delaware Ave., Renovo, PA went home to heaven April 29, 2016 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Williamsport, PA.  Born Feb. 23, 1949 in Renovo, PA he was the son of the late Charles B. & Gertrude M. Saltsman Long. On Aug. 18, 1973 in Renovo he married Donna R. Wagner who survives at home.

“Peanut’ retired in 2007 from the U. S. Postal Service after 22 + years service.  He had previously worked at Avery Coal Co., Berwick Forge & Fabricating and ACI.  A “Tunnel Rat “, he served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict as an SP 4 in the C & S Co., 86th Maint. Bn., USARV. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Viet Nam Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Bars and the VGM.

“Peanut”, a strong Christian, was a member of the 1st United Presbyterian Church, Renovo, PA where he was a trustee; served a Quartermaster of VFW Post  6178, Renovo; a member of  American Legion Post, 442, Renovo; Western Clinton Co. Veterans Council; the D. A. V. and was the Bugler for veterans funeral services in the Renovo area. He had also received a Special Achievement Award from the USPS.  He was a Little League coach, a long-time counselor for Boy Scout Troop 187. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.   He was considered to be an ‘Excellent Friend’ by all who knew him.

His survivors include;

1 Son:           Scott A. (Kelly) Long, Hummelstown, PA

1 Brother:    Richard (Marion) Long, Harrisburg, PA

2 Sisters:       Pamela Long, Lemoyne, PA and Lori Long, Hershey, PA

3 Grandchildren:  Scott  A. Long, II, Minneapolis , MN, Grant X. Long and Grace T. M. Long

both of Hummelstown, PA

1 Brother       Douglas Long

2 Sisters:        Ruth Ann McGaha and Madelyn Long

His Step-Father, Delamar E. Putman

A graveside committal service honoring the life of Charles B. “Peanut” Long, Jr. will be held 1:30 P.M.

Sat., May 7, 2016 at the Fairview Cemetery, Renovo, PA with Martha Sykes officiating.

The family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to the Bucktail Medical Center or V.F.W. Post 6178 thru the funeral home.
