Central Mountain Boys Runner-Up to Rams

cm-basketballSPRING MILLS – The Central Mountain boys basketball (2-5) felled one unbeaten but could not make it two in finishing as runner-up at the annual Penns Valley Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The Wildcats played some of their best ball of the season on Friday, a 57-49 win over previously undefeated Mifflinburg (4-1).

Central Mountain opened a 35-23 lead early in the third quarter but the Wildcats from Mifflinburg battled to within six at 47-41 well into period four. But a key Tyler Everhart bucket put the lead back in double-figures and Central Mountain moved on to the win.

Everhart led CM with 21 points; fellow seniors Travis Turchetta, with seven points and six rebounds, and Luke Stevenson with five points and eight rebounds, helped out.

Alex Garbrick and Tanner Meeker each had six points, Kyler Klein in with five.

Saturday against home team Penns Valley (7-0) the outcome was different, the host Rams opening up a 19-9 first quarter lead and never looking back.

Everhart had eight points in the game and was named the tourney’s outstanding offensive player and was named to the all-tourney.

The Wildcats were led by the sophomore Garbrick who had 13 points and was picked for the tourney’s sportsmanship award.

First Central Mountain game of 2014 will be Friday, Jan. 3 at Philipsburg-Osceola.
