Cowanesque Valley Notches First Win Against Bucks

bucks-footballFARWELL — Bucktail football faithful were hopeful that a visit from previously winless Cowanesque Valley would be enough to help the home field Bucks end a two game losing streak Friday night.

But Cowanesque’s junior quarterback Colton Vinlaun had other ideas as he engineered a 90-yard run and a 90-yard pass on his team’s first two offense plays, starting CV to a 49-16 win over the now 1-3 Bucks.

It was a tough night for Bucktail as four starters, including quarterback Mike Casper and running back Anthony Intallura went down with injuries. Their future status and that of injured starters Josh Marr and Zach Cummings was not immediately known.

After being held without a first down in the first half the Bucks did put up two scores in the second half, a 3-yard run from Brice Cannon and a 5-yard run from his brother Blake Cannon; Bryce converted 2-point extra points after each score. Blake would finish with 71 yards on 15 carries, Bryce 7 for 34.

Vinlaun was 3-for-3 passing for 156 yards and rushed 6 times for 136 yards.

The Bucks next up will travel next Saturday to take on Carson Long Military Academy at New Bloomfield. Little is known about the Warriors at this point; they lost to Hancock, MD by a 55-25 score last week. Bucktail will return home Friday, Oct. 9 to host Canton.
