Words of Grace – August 27, 2015

WordsOfGraceSomeone has pointed out that the bible actually tells Christians how to dress. The things that Christians are to “put on” are listed in Colossians 3:12-14.

“Put on . . . mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;” and then we are to wear the garments of forbearance and forgiveness. Then, over everything, we are to put on charity. These verses are said to be a list of what the well-dressed Christian should be wearing.

First Timothy 2:9, 10 is saying that Christian women are to dress “in modest apparel.” This is becoming to women who profess godliness.

It was the apostle, in his first epistle, who pointed out that Christian women are to be more concerned about the inward adorning of the heart than the outward adorning. It is all about the hidden person of the heart, “even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” (3:3, 4).

When a dear, elderly lady was asked what she used to make her complexion so beautiful and her whole being so bright and attractive, she answered in short: “I use for my lips, truth; for my voice, kindness; for my eyes, compassion; for my hands, charity; for my figure, uprightness; for my heart, love; and for any who do not like me, I use prayer.”
