STEP Office Of Aging Assisting Seniors with Nutritious Locally Grown Produce

More than 1,700 local senior citizens—including many from the Renovo area—have an opportunity to purchase fresh, Pennsylvania grown fruits and vegetables this summer. The STEP Office of Aging recently distributed fruit and vegetable vouchers, part of a program sponsored annually by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Eligible seniors, like Peg Simcox of North Bend (pictured), received four, $5 vouchers that can be used at participating local farmers’ markets. The voucher distribution locally was held at STEP Renovo Senior Community Center, located at the South Renovo Fire Hall. Information on STEP programs and services was also available at the distribution.

Part of STEP’s Independent Living Pathway to Success, the Office of Aging is the local Area Agency on Aging in Clinton and Lycoming counties. Through its eight senior community centers and two social services offices, the Office of Aging provides a wide range of programs and services designed to advance the well-being of older adults and enable seniors to remain in their own homes and apartments and lead independent lifestyles.
