Words of Grace – June 25, 2015

A woman who had suffered with a disease for twelve years came up behind Jesus “and touched the hem of his garment” (Matthew 9:20). Her thinking was that, if she could just touch his garment, she would be made whole.

When Jesus turned around and saw her, he said, “Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.” And the woman was made whole from that hour.

On another occasion, when the sick were brought to Jesus, they just wanted to “touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole” (Matthew 14:36).

The sick people that Jesus healed were not just made well in their bodies. They were also healed in their souls. Jesus made them “perfectly whole,” which means that they were made physically and spiritually well.

If Jesus only healed the body and not the soul, it would not be complete. But in Christ we are complete. “And ye are complete in him” (Colossians 2:10). That is good to know, as Aaron Wolfe wrote.

“Complete in Thee! No work of mine may take, dear Lord, the place of Thine. Thy blood has pardon bought for me, and I am now complete in Thee.”

Yes, we are complete in Christ.
