Jessie Irene Smith Eyer, 87, of McElhattan went to be the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Lock Haven Hospital.

Born in Youngdale on August 4, 1927, Irene was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Bessie M. Shadle Smith.

She was a 1945 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On August 4, 1947 in Baltimore Irene married the love of her life, Clyde “Feet” Eyer, whom she met while square dancing.

Irene was seamstress at Woolrich Woolen Mills, being employed there for 21 years.

She was a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church as well as the Wayne Township Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Irene enjoyed camping, sewing, square dancing, and going for rides in the car with Clyde.

Surviving are five sons: Edward (Michelle) Eyer of Avis and Robert, Richard, Peter, and Donald (Sarah) Eyer, all of McElhattan; two daughters, Eileen (Steve) Payton of Mill Hall and Bessie (Chris) Engel of Lock Haven; a brother, Roy Smith, Jr. of Oregon; a sister, Naomi Mantle of Lock Haven; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Clyde “Feet” Eyer; a son, Clyde Eyer, Jr.; a granddaughter, Janice Eyer; and two sisters: Rita Linn and Marion Vonada.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
