Elmer Ellsworth Hill, 89, of Lock Haven passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his home.

Born December 28, 1925 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late James Roy and Annie Elizabeth Bower Hill.

Elmer served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On December 9, 1950 he married the former Rose Mary Mancini who survives.

Elmer was employed by Hammermill Paper Company and then International Paper working in the Finishing Department.

For his entire life he was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Elmer was very involved in the community, holding a life membership at the Elks and Son’s of Italy, and was a social member of the American Legion, 40 & 8, Castanea Fire Company, and the Moose. He was also a founding member of Savage Hunting Camp.

Elmer was an avid Penn State football fan. He was a member of the Lock Haven University Wrestling Club and enjoyed traveling to watch their matches. He also loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, both at the high school and college level.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Joanne (Franklin) Furl of Lock Haven, Theresa (Fred) Jacobs and Mary Ann (Harry) Bower, both of Flemington; a daughter-in-law, Debra J. Hill of Mill Hall; two brothers, Talford and Theodore “Ted” Hill; five sisters: Annie May Menichello, Audrey Jeanette Engle, Kathryn “Kate” Williams, Barbara Stabley, and Betty Lou Barner; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Hill; eight brothers: George, Leon, James “Bucky,” Jonathan, Emil “Kalin,” Larry, Dalton, and Edward Hill; three sisters: Gertrude “Dot” Mikitko, Lydia Hill, and Frances Hill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Son’s Of Italy service beginning at 3:45 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7:45 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Son’s of Italy or the James E. Van Zandt Veteran’s Medical Center of Altoona.
