Post 623 Honored with 2025 Community Service Award for Outstanding Local Impact

BEECH CREEK – Bitner-Bechdel Post 623 of the Beech Creek American Legion received the 2025 Community Service Award during the 106th Annual Convention, held July 20 in Harrisburg, Pa. The award was presented by Department Commander John Fritz and Community Service Committee Chairman Richard Craig to Past Commander Steven M. Heverly of Post 623. Heverly stated, “It’s not a me thing but a we thing. If it wasn’t for the present membership and community support, this would never happen.”
Post 623’s service includes having fundraisers to purchase a wheelchair for a local veteran who had two tours in Iraq, paying for a ramp for a Vietnam Veteran to enter his home, visiting the Hollidaysburg VA Home annually with the Lindy Sisters to provide donations as well as entertainment, providing support information through local events, able to make donations to our local Fire Company, Horses for Hope, Camp Cadet, Special Olympics, Art Post Awareness, the VA Cancer in Altoona Pa, to include supporting our Local Boy Scouts, and The Legion Baseball Teams. . Post 623 thanks the community for its support and invites all to an Open House scheduled for September 2025.
