KUNES FALLS INTO THE CONSOLATIONS AT STATE TOURNAMENT

By Joe Walker

HERSHEY – Central Mountain sophomore Aiden Kunes fell into the consolation rounds of the boys PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Championships, as he was the victim of a fall in the Round of 16 and will now wrestle in the consolation second round.

Kunes (37-10) was trailing Southeast regional champion Quinn McBride (30-7) of Pennridge 4-0 in the second period, when McBride caught Kunes in a pancake move and pinned the Wildcat in 1:15 of the second period.

After the fall was recorded, Kunes had to be treated by the trainers, as it appeared he may have been butted in the head during the move and appeared a little dazed. Will have to wait to see on Friday if he continues in the tournament or if he may be a victim of concussion protocol, as it is all speculation at this point in time.

If Kunes continues he will face the winner of the first round consolation bout between South Central region fourth place finisher Zach Sherman (34-11) Chambersburg and South Central regional runner-up Jackson Orrell (38-7) of Red Lion in the consolation second round.

The championship quarterfinals and second round of consolations are scheduled for 2:15 pm on Friday.
