SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT- For the first time this season, Bucktail met a team not from the D9 NTL. The Lady Bucks finally stepped into Mid Penn Conference play with a road trip to South Williamsport. Bucktail managed to split last year’s pair of meetings with the Lady Mounties, but round one would go to South on Friday night.

Abby Akers netted 18 points for the Lady Mounties, as South used a big 33-17 second half to finally fend off a pesky Bucktail squad.

Bucktail trailed by just four points following the first quarter and their 11-8 second quarter advantage had the Lady Bucks down 18-17 at intermission.

Then came the Lady Mounties offense.

South Williamsport’s 20 third quarter points to Bucktail’s 8 points quickly set the stage for the remainder of the game. With a 38-25 lead going into the game’s final quarter, South Williamsport closed the game on a 13-9 advantage to lock the 51-34 victory.

South, a 3A District IV school seen their record improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Bucktail dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 within the Mid Penn Conference.

Kendall Wagner had a strong night for Bucktail, collecting another double-double. Wagner led Bucktail with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Matti Mason also hit double figures by netting 13 points. Eva Sockman once again had a big rebounding night for the Lady Bucks by grabbing 14 rebounds. Arianna Winkelman also chipped in 4 points.

Bucktail will next be in action on Monday when they are set to travel to Muncy.
