Lady Cats fall at D4 powers Hughesville 57-31
By Bees O’Brien
HUGHESVILLE- A season ago, Hughesville worked their way into being one of the best girls basketball programs in all of District IV. On Friday night the defending 3A district champions had no trouble taking down Central Mountain.
The Lady Spartans showed their dominance early in the first quarter by jumping out to a 25-4 lead on the visiting Lady Wildcats. A basket from Jayce Tripp and a pair of Camdyn Weaver free throws would be the only points that the Clinton County squad could manage.
The assault by Hughesville only continued in the second quarter. The Lady Spartans built a 43-11 halftime lead following an 18-7 second quarter advantage.
Central Mountain did fair better in the second half. Hughesville was held to just 14 second half points to the Lady Wildcats 20 points to set the 57-31 final.
Weaver led Central Mountain with 11 points, as she was the only Lady Wildcat to reach double figures. Taylor Doyle chipped in 8 points, Lena Walker added 5 and Tripp finished the night with 4 points.
Now 0-2, Central Mountain will return to Mill Hall on Monday and host Penns Valley.
