Bucks drop opener at St. Joseph’s Catholic 83-54

By Bees O’Brien

BOALSBURG- Bucktail began their defense of their District IV 1A championship on the road against a very tough St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy. The Bucks efforts and hustle weren’t enough against a Wolf Pack squad that is going to be a favorite within District 6.

The Bucks could never fight their way back into a game that seen them trailing the entire way. Down 21-7 after one quarter, Bucktail made a move in the second quarter. Their run was quickly halted and they trailed the host Wolf Pack 40-23 at the break.

St. Joseph’s lead swelled to 59-41 entering the final quarter of play, but the Bucks just couldn’t find a way to get back into the contest.

St. Joe’s closed out the game with a 24-13 advantage to set the final score at 83-54.

The Bucks did get some solid efforts from Brody Pentz, Gary Whipp and Gavin Pick. Pentz led the Bucks with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Whipp added 15 points and Pick dropped in 14 points in the loss.

St. Joseph’s improved to 2-0 on the season, while Bucktail is off to an 0-1 start.

The Bucks will next be in action at home on Monday when 1-0 Austin comes to Farwell. The Panthers downed Williamson on Friday night and will offer an excellent challenge for the Bucks. That game will be livestreamed on The Record Online.
