Talented Lady Wildcats set for new season
By Bees O’Brien
MILL HALL- Central Mountain girls basketball head coach Scott Baker has good reasons to feel confident for the upcoming season. The Lady Wildcats return a strong group of experienced players.
Macy Plowman, Lena Walker, Ava Doyle, Taylor Doyle and Jayce Tripp make up an experienced senior class and throw in Camdyn Weaver and you have the makings of a team that could make some noise within District 6 and the Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference.
Last season the Lady Wildcats made an early opening round exit from the postseason, but coach Baker is confident in this version of the Lady Wildcats advancing even further.
“We feel that we have the ability to compete for both a PHAC and D6 Championship.” Said Baker of his teams potential entering the season.
Walker and the Doyle sisters were clutch from the three-point line last season. Weaver also showed her range at times and has an ability to score. Plowman and Tripp should provide toughness on the boards for an undersized Central Mountain team.
The Lady Wildcats will be tested right out of the gates with a road trip to Loyalsock on December 3, where LHU signee Lacey Kriebel and her Lady Lancers await.
Another tough trip at Hughesville on December 6 is on the slate. On December 9 CM opens their home slate against Penns Valley. They will then make a long trip to Dubois on Friday, December 13 to square off with the Lady Beavers.
On December 18 the Lady Wildcats are set to meet up with Bellwood Antis in an interesting nonconference battle. After a long holiday break, Central Mountain will return to the court on December 30 to host Mifflin County.
They will then open PHAC play by hosting Danville on January 3 before a road trip to Jersey Shore four days later.
Midd-West, Selinsgrove, Williamsport and Shikellamy round out the Lady Wildcats PHAC schedule. They will also meet a pair of District 9 schools towards the end of regular season. They will first host Dubois Central Catholic on February 7 before a season-ending trip to St. Mary’s on February 17.
