Bald Eagle Supers hear progress on township projects

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Bald Eagle Township Supervisors met Monday evening for their monthly supervisors meeting and heard from various individuals regarding the old business portion of the meeting.

An individual wanting to construct storage units along route 150 came forth requesting that three items be waived to be able to proceed with construction. The three items for the township to consider were waiving a requirement to install sidewalks which township Solicitor Miceli explained as a “sidewalk to nowhere” because there are no other sidewalks around the proposed build site.

Another requirement that a waiver was being requested for was the requirement for paving. The builder assured the supervisors that aggregate 2A stone will be used throughout the facility. The third waiver went almost hand-in-hand with the second, indicating that lines be painted for parking and directional use, but as the builder said “I could mark it, but it will be unpaved and the paint most likely gone in a couple days.”

Township supervisors conditionally approved these waivers.

No update was given on the Wawa project which was proposed for the former Creekside Restaurant and Weaver Electrical offices along route 150; with no news as of yet from PennDOT regarding the submitted traffic study.

Township supervisors also heard from the party interested in bringing a Take 5 oil change facility to Hogan Boulevard in front of Lowe’s, in the vacant lot adjacent to Sheetz. He is seeking permission from Lowe’s to tie into the storm water drains for water runoff and utilities, while also needing to raise the land by an additional eight feet to come out of the flood zone.

Bids were opened for the Kinley Hollow repaving project with Glenn O. Hawbaker being the lowest bidder at $180,943.

In new business, supervisors expressed interest in sending representatives to the County Convention being held in June at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. “I hope everybody has the opportunity to attend, the price is nominal per person, and there are usually some pretty good speakers from state offices in Harrisburg,” said a supervisor.

A 50% matching county grant opportunity currently exists that the township expressed interest in applying for for a future culvert project.

Supervisors also deliberated briefly about the future purchase of a trailer and mini excavator. While interest was initially shown in a Kubota U35, other quotes and specifications are being considered for the township’s needs. Discussion on this has been tabled until the next meeting.
