Optimist’s Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

Love God, love others and all the rest will fall into place! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what better subject is there to talk about than love? After all, it is because of God’s love that He sent His Son. Because of God’s love, we are reminded of how we are to love.

In the gospel of Mark, chapter 12, we can read the greatest commandment to “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” and then Jesus tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves.

When we express our love for God, we are worshipping Him. if we say we love God, then we must express that love. If you really and truly love God, you will want to express your love to God, and in as many ways as possible.

As we live out our lives, we can share the love of God through the way we obey His commandments by doing things to please Him.

Mother Teresa has said that we need to fall in love with God. Our relationship with Him will guide us our whole lives if we let Him.

We have many opportunities to express our love to God by following His commandments, by praying to Him, listening to Him in our still, quiet moments of our day, by praising Him through songs and worship, or by spending time honoring Him for His love, grace, and mercy given to us every day.

I think a good way to celebrate God’s love this Valentine’s Day would be to share His love with those we care about, but also with someone close to us who needs to know the love of God is always there!! And by the way, I hope that whoever is reading this, knows that God loves them.
