LH Volleyball downs West Chester to remain perfect to open home slate

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven volleyball team continues to roll after securing its second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory, downing West Chester, 3-2, on Saturday (Oct. 7) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

At the midway point through PSAC East play, the Bald Eagles are in the heart of the postseason race and currently sit in a tie for third.

With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC East. Lock Haven’s eight wins are the most for the program since 2018, while the three conference victories surpassed the total from the previous five seasons.

The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after earning a hard-fought 25-23 victory in the first set, but the Golden Rams took advantage of sloppy hitting by the Bald Eagles in the second and third set to regain the advantage at 2-1. Lock Haven dropped the second set, 25-12, before falling in extra-play, 26-24, in the third set.

However, the Bald Eagles bounced back with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set to force the rubber match.

The Golden Rams clawed their way back in the fourth set to make it 20-17, but the Bald Eagles, led by three kills from freshman Reagan Irons (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone), scored four unanswered points to put the set out of reach.

The Bald Eagles saved the best for last, finishing with their best hit percentage of the match to take the final set, 15-9 and secure the victory.

Irons had one of her best games of her young career, leading the scoring with a team-high 19 kills. Evie Jane Rembold (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) finished behind her with 14 kills, while Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) once again led the charge in assists with 47.

Natalie Acevedo (Camuy, Puerto Rico/Paula Freire Social Justice Charter School) led the defense with 20 digs, while Gaston and Madison Eckley (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle) added 12 digs each.
