Motorist hurt avoiding bear on Renovo Road

GRUGAN TOWNSHIP, PA – A Bucks County man sustained minor injuries when he swerved his vehicle to avoid a bear on the Renovo Road on the late morning of July 5.

State police said Bernard West, 77, from Sellersville was westbound on Route 120, the middle car of three vehicles traveling in the same direction when a black bear entered the roadway in front of the lead vehicle. In an effort to avoid the bear and the vehicle in front, police said, West swerved to the left and lost control of his vehicle. It struck a rocky embankment and rolled over.

Police said the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by Lock Haven EMS to UPMC Williamsport. The West car had to be towed from the scene.
