City quizzed on status of malfunctioning hangar door at Piper Memorial Airport
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Lock Haven City Manager Greg Wilson told two Piper Memorial Airport hangar tenants that an effort to get a new door for Hangars 1 and 2 was “not on the backburner.”
Council held its second June meeting Monday night at the airport’s Hangar 1. At the conclusion of the meeting, Jim Keefer, who said he had a plane housed in the hangar, inquired as to the status of securing a replacement door. It was learned that door has not been able to be closed for several weeks and remains in an open position.
Keefer expressed concern about the effects of the weather and security issues if a new door is not installed. City Manager Wilson said the replacement issue had been delayed when the city lost the usage of a required aviation engineer to provide assistance. He noted the city has half a million dollars to pay for new doors at the two adjacent hangars and indicated the replacement work would proceed.
Council held its session at the airport as the annual Cub Haven Fly-In begins this week. A smattering of small craft, early arrivals, could be seen across the runway. The 38-minute meeting was chaired by council vice-president Steve Stevenson in the absence of Mayor Joel Long. Council member Barbara Masorti was also not in attendance.
