LHU: Matthew Muthler Named to PSAC Spring Top-10

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Junior Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) of the Lock Haven men’s outdoor track and field team has been named to the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Spring Sports Top-10 list. This prestigious academic honor comes after Muthler enjoyed a sensational outdoor season in the spring for the Bald Eagles.

The PSAC Top-10 awards started in 1998-99 and are selected by the league’s athletic communications professionals to recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top-10 award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring.

To be a candidate for the Top-10 awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade-point-average, and must have legitimate athletic credentials.
Muthler certainly stood out in field of competition, but also in the classroom. He holds an impressive 3.924 while majoring in applied computer science with a concentration in information systems.

The Bald Eagle was recently named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division II Academic All-District Track and Field and Cross Country team.

Muthler also earned 2023 All-Region honors. He was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Atlantic Region team in the decathlon.
At the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Muthler finished second in the decathlon and earned All-Conference honors.

His 3,325-point effort at the PSAC championship meet was the third-best mark in the Atlantic Region in 2023 and the fifth-best mark in school history. At the PSAC Championships, Muthler capped the two-day, 10-event competition with an 859-point run of 4:13.20 in the 1,500-meter event. That 1,500m-time is the second fastest in Division II history for a 1,500-meter run that is part of the decathlon. Muthler also qualified and participated in the high jump at conference championship meet.
