CM volleyball avenges loss to Bellefonte; preps for districts

BELLEFONTE, PA – The Central Mountain volleyball team went to Bellefonte on Monday and reversed an early season loss to the host Lady Raiders. The Lady Wildcats fell to Bellefonte, 3-0, on Sept. 12 but Monday was a different story on the Raiders’ home court. CM took a hard-earned 26-24 win in the first set and took set two 25-16. Bellefonte stayed alive by a 25-21 margin in the third set but the Lady ‘Cats clinched the 3-1 win with a 25-14 verdict in set four.

The win finished CM’s regular season with a 10-6 record and sets the team up with a home District Six Class 4A semifinal with Altoona. That contest will be Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.and Central Mountain will also be looking for revenge in that one, the Blair County team winning at home on Oct. 18 by a 3-1 score.

Lady Wildcat coach Chipp McCann told The Record his squad is looking forward to the challenge: “Altoona, as you know, in most sports has plenty of great athletes. Volleyball is no different. Don’t let their record (6-9) fool you. They play in a very tough conference (Mid Pen) with the likes of State College, Cumberland Valley and Central Dauphin (to name a few). Historically Central Mountain doesn’t play well at Altoona. We are looking forward to hosting them at our place and hoping that the community comes out to support us. If we “show up” it should be a very entertaining volleyball match.”

The CM-Altoona winner will play for the district title on Thursday, Nov. 3 against top-seeded State College. The contest will be held at Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate at 7 p.m.
