Bucktail softball sets school record for most runs in a game with 28-6 win at Benton
By Bees O’Brien
BENTON, PA- Bucktail faced a huge contrast in skill level two days removed from their marathon at Muncy. The Benton Lady Tigers were the opposition for a frustrated Lady Bucks team who only managed 1 run in 9 innings on Monday afternoon at Muncy, that contest suspended at 1-1 until next month.
The Lady Bucks already owned a 27-0 victory over Benton earlier this season. That win set the school record for most runs by a Lady Buck team and Wednesday night’s 28-6 win set the new standard for most scored runs in a game. This very same team had set the previous record last season by racking up 25 runs in a win against St. Joseph’s Catholic.
Emma Poorman combined with Lily Francis on a no hitter and Bucktail racked up 20 hits in just three at bats. Francis also had a big night at the plate going 4 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBI’s.
Bucktail put the game out of reach quickly in the top of the first inning by crossing 13 runs. They’d score 10 in the second and capped it off with 5 runs in the top of the third.
The Lady Tigers took advantage of 6 walks in their half of the third to score 6 runs and set the final. Benton remained winless and at the bottom of the Mid Penn Conference East Division, while Bucktail improved to 4-0 and 4-0 in conference play to remain at the top of the MPC West Division.
Mak Wagner connected on a pair of doubles and accounted for 6 RBI’s. Poorman would go 4 for 5 with a triple and 4 runs batted in. Haley Burrows would go 2 for 3 with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Senior Raileigh Isaacs was 3 for 4 with a double. Giada Demarte added a pair of hits as well for the Lady Bucks.
Bucktail will now travel to 2A West Branch (2-4) out of District 6 Thursday in Allport for a 4:30 p.m. start.
