Words of Grace
By Pastor Mahlon Nevel
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” as Psalm 33:12 declares. And as Proverbs 14: 34 states, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
We want America to continue to be blessed and exalted by the Lord. It seems, however, that we have lost the Lord’s blessing and are heading in the wrong direction spiritually.
Lee Roberson tells about a hospital visit he once made when he saw a group of people standing at the door of a hospital room. He came to find out that a man was dying in his loved ones were there waiting for him to die.
Roberson later related this incident to our nation. He thought about how America’s enemies are standing at the door waiting for our country to die.
We need to remember that we are “one nation under God.” We dare not put our leaders in the place of the Lord.
The story is told of a group of noblemen who were gathered together for a meeting with the king of England.
When he entered the room the men paid their respect by standing to their feet.
“Take your seats, gentlemen,” the king said.” I count you all as my personal friends. You know that I am not the Lord.”
Then one of the nobleman responded,” No Sir, if you were our Lord, we would not stand to our feet. We would fall on our knees.”
