Mary Elizabeth (Clancy) Wise – Obituary
Mary Elizabeth (Clancy) Wise went to be with her loved ones on January 28, 2021. Born December 25, 1939 Mary grew up in Genesee, Pennsylvania, an area also known as “Irish Settlement”. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and never missed a chance to celebrate that identity with friends and family. She was married to Robert C. Wise on March 3, 1962.
Mary attended Lock Haven Teachers College where she earned a degree in English with a minor in French. She taught at several schools in the area including Bucktail, Bald Eagle Nittany, Penns Valley and Lock Haven. In time her family became more important and she retired selflessly to raise her children. Later in her life she owned and operated Clyde’s Sporting Goods where she provided contemporary sporting equipment and screen printing to all the local people. Additionally, she enjoyed operating a Bed and Breakfast known as the Farmhouse on Hedge Apple Lane offering a comfortable setting to visiting business people and Penn State football fans in town for the big game.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in December, 2018 as well as her parents Irving and Laura; her siblings Eddie, John and Theresa; her son Sean; and her grandson Bobby.
Mary’s surviving family includes her children Robert C. Wise, II, Von P. Wise (Darla), and Maggie Wise Hope (Jonathan). Affectionately known as Mim, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Jon Wise, Von Wise, II, Luke Wise, Stone Brush, and Sierra Bertanzetti; and a great-granddaughter Rowan. Mim took great pride and received tremendous self-satisfaction in sharing in the lives of her grandchildren. Additionally, Mary is survived by a sister Sally, niece Lisa, and the rest of the Clancy clan.
Mary will be remembered as a selfless and beautiful soul. Void of personal ego she was quick to help others and was the voice of reason in times of conflict. She loved to read and was a member of several local book clubs as well as the Catholic Daughters of America and the Holy Spirit Parish. She was blessed to have had the opportunity to visit Ireland on several occasions allowing her to fortify her Irish connection.
