Clifton A. Brown – Obituary
Clifton A. Brown, Sr., 87, a lifelong resident of Castanea, was surrounded by family when he passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Jersey Shore Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Lock Haven on January 8, 1933, he was a son of the late Elwood and Roberta (Poorman) Brown.
Clifton attended Carson Long Military Academy, New Bloomfield, where he was involved in sports and enjoyed photography.
On April 16, 1952, he married his love, the former Dotty Jane Morrison, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.
Clifton was employed at the Silk Mill. He then became a drywall finisher, working for Capital Coach and then Haven Homes until his retirement.
He was a member of Laurel Run United Methodist Church.
Clifton was a former member of the Lock Haven Lions and an active member of the Susquehanna Numismatic Club (coin club) who often attended coin and estate auctions.
In his younger years, he was a small game hunter and fisherman.
In more recent years, Clifton enjoyed traveling with his wife- often driving long distances. He was known for the perfection of his lawn and was an avid fan of Western movies and shows. Clifton often sat on his porch swing enjoying the birds and squirrels.
In addition to his wife, Dotty Brown, he is survived by two daughters, Debra (Robert) Reeder of Lock Haven and Winona (Michael) Johnson of Green Bay, WI; two daughters-in-law, Ruth Brown of Carlisle and Deena Brown of Burkburnett, TX; a brother, Robert (Rose) Brown of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren: Clifton Brown, III, Philip Brown, Patti Kuntz, Jacque Sommer, Jill Munoz, William Fourney and Amanda Swiecichowski; 14 great grandchildren with another on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three children: Clifton Brown, Jr., Randy Brown and Susan Brown and three sisters: Florene Brown, Larue Shaffer and Winona Gruver.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Clifton’s name may be made to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
